What Katsuki saw of his quirk has melted away to creamy smooth skin, save for a wrinkle that cracks through his forehead. Katsuki clicks his tongue. “Nice try asshole,” he sneers.“I still won,” the boy rasps.

They know too many terrible stories, of what happens when two heroes involve themselves in each other’s path. There are too many heroes driven to madness by the loss of a lover, too many orphans left to cry at twin graves. They have been warned by teachers every year, over and over.

Link remained silent for a long moment. His eyes had averted to the floor as he thought, his brow furrowing wonderfully in the process. Link’s facial expressions always amused Sidon, for they always seemed to put forth the maximum effort to show his feelings. Even now, in a moment where he had yet to say a word, Sidon could sense the gears in his brain turning, could see it plainly in that wrinkled brow and downturned lip. ‘Me? You said me?’ he asked, hesitant in the way his hands moved.“Yes,” Sidon admitted, strong and firm. “There isn’t another I would trust so deeply in all of Hyrule.”

The Water Lily's Dance

It isn’t until the sun melts to tuscan rust and dyes even their purest silvers gold that Link approaches on the horizon, looking waterlogged and a little worse for wear, but alive. His shoulders hang heavy but his eyes are alight in blue fire, and Sidon feels a brilliant water lily blossom in his chest at the sight, too much to bear.

Gen blinks. He feels so many emotions at once that he feels almost none of them, until they reach him one at a time. First is a wave of cold that crashes over Gen’s entire body, like the sea has slapped him at his knees. Then he feels the undertow, the ripping sensation of shock that Senku would even bring such a thing up. Then, there is hope, the lighthouse in the distance that spins all night and day that Gen is always aware of that reminds him that Senku is always, always willing to learn something new.
